McAdams - A Pioneer Family

Kelly McAdams recalls a trip to the picture show:

 “We didn’t have any movies in Bedias—anywhere close to Bedias.  Navasota did have a movie and that was 30 miles away.  So Papa put us all four in the car—we had a car by that time; we had a good cotton crop—and we started out from Bedias to Navasota.  We finally got there in time for the show.  We saw "To Hell with the Kaiser.”  Of course, everything was “to hell with the Kaiser,” you know. 

 We started back home; we got back home about daylight.  What was the trouble?  The trouble was flats.  Flats, flats, flats.  We would no more fix a flat than it would go down.  And a patch just wouldn’t hold, just wouldn’t hold at all. Finally, we got home alright, but just by the skin of the teeth!”
