Historical Marker Program
Since 1993, year of the Sam Houston Bicentennial Birthday Celebration, the City of Huntsville has contributed to the recognition of Huntsville's heritage by placing historical markers on sites of signifiance in Huntsville. The sites range from Sam Houston's whittling sites, to the sites of the first hotel, trading post, the first location of the Steamboat House and others, many of which are located in the Downtown area of Huntsville.
