The Whistler House
Huntsville, Texas, is an historic city with a rich tradition of educational institutions, churches, and homes. Established in 1835 on a land grant to Pleasant Gray, the city was once known as the Athens of Texas. The Gibbs Powell House (upper left) which was built in 1856, is now operated as a museum by the Walker County Historical Commission. (Contact James Patton at 936-436-4922 for more information.)

The Whistler (on the left), built in 1860 by James H. Thomason, is owned by Mary Mabel Thomason Clegg.
