The Arts Commission is made up of nine commissioners. All members are arts advocates appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Huntsville City Council.
The Commission supports arts organizations with funding for worthwhile projects. It also supports and contributes to downtown revitalization and oversees the historic Wynne Home Arts Center. Funding for organizations is provided by the City of Huntsville, through hotel and motel tax revenues, grants and gifts. The determination of recipients for funding is decided, through a competitive process, by the Huntsville Arts Commission, with the approval of the Huntsville City Council.
Any non-profit organization is eligible for assistance. Individuals may apply for funds, but in some cases must apply under the umbrella of a tax-exempt organization. All projects submitted for assistance must have a local applicant.
Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm in the Wynne Home Arts Center Meeting Room. Meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend.
